WhatsApp also made it clear in a bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh that it will not limit the functionality for users who do not opt for the new privacy policy in the meantime.

WhatsApp has informed the Delhi High Court that it has voluntarily suspended its privacy policy for the time being.

Speaking for the instant messaging platform, senior advocate Harish Salve said, "We have voluntarily put it (policy) on hold... we are not going to force people to accept it." Salve said that WhatsApp will still display the update to its users.

The court is considering an appeal by Facebook and its WhatsApp company against the single judge's decision, which refused to stay the CCI's order to examine WhatsApp's new privacy policy.

On June 23, the Delhi High Court refused to suspend the Competition Commission of India's (CCI) investigation into WhatsApp's new privacy policy. A bank in the leave division of Judges Anup Jairam Bhambhani and Jasmeet Singh heard an appeal from WhatsApp and its parent company Facebook Inc against the single bank rule, which declined a CCI investigation.
