Kurien said the new infrastructure will help provide solutions to problems like disaster recovery in India and ensure low latency for many government companies in and around Delhi.

Google did not say how much it has invested in setting up new cloud facilities.

Google Cloud's India unit managing director Bikram Singh Bedi said India's fledgling startup economy has also helped drive and accelerate the use of cloud services.

Google Cloud counts domestic social network ShareChat, online travel company Cleartrip and private lender HDFC Bank among its Indian customers.

Google has bet a lot on India. Last year, the company had invested $4.5 billion (about Rs 33,550 billion) in Jio Platforms, the digital arm of oil-to-telecom conglomerate Reliance Industries, out of a $10 billion (about Rs 74,550 billion) digitization fund. for the country.

In June, Google announced that it would partner with Jio to help India's largest wireless operator with technology solutions for business and consumer offerings ahead of the launch of 5G services.
