WhatsApp Rolling Out New Group Call Feature That Allows Users To Drop Off And Rejoin

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature in the app that allows users to join group voice calls or group video calls after its launch. The Connectable Calling feature allows people to join a group call, simply by going to the Calls tab of the app.

The new feature also provides a call information screen, where users can see who is on call, as well as invited users who have not yet arrived. "Joinable calls ease the burden of answering group calls in the beginning and bring the ease and ease of individual conversations in group calls via WhatsApp," said a blog post on the platform.

Prior to the new update, users who miss the call notification will have to ask the caller to re-joining it. This method, allowing someone to join the call later, was very inconvenient. A caller interacting with callers would often recall messages from people who had been missed and asked to invite them again.

The new feature leaves it to users to decide when to join a group call. In addition, it allows users to cancel an existing call and rejoin later when the call is in progress.

The new update comes with a new WhatsApp update that should hit all Android and iOS devices soon. Making group calls is as easy as ever, but users get a new notification layout when they are invited to a call.

Users now see two options – “Join” and “Ignore” when invited to a group call. Clicking Join will take you directly to the call while selecting Ignore will redirect the call to your Calls tab in the app. Once you can answer the call, you can go to the Calls tab (the area on the far right of the main WhatsApp screen) and go straight to the ongoing call.
