Dreams are meant to be fulfilled!- This 23-year-old did not let anyone, not even her family, to stop her from following her dreams and become an entrepreneur.

She choose to start Kalakar Gift Studio rather than doing a 9-5 job.

Surbhi Gupta is a girl who always wanted to chase her dreams and that’s what life is all about... Don’t you think that? If not then read this... It will change the perception we think!!!

Surbhi was creative and crafty since childhood. She wanted to pursue studies in design and creativity. However, for her parents, fashion industry is nuisance and have no carrier. She was discouraged to follow her passion.

In small towns, entrepreneurship is still not seen as ‘safe’ option for many, especially for parents of children who want a startup.

Her failure in CAT led her parents doubt on her capabilities and they insisted her to get married like every other typical indian family. “They started to doubt me, which pushed me into a depressed state. It was a period where no one understood my capabilities or what I really wanted to do. They always kept pointing out that this person’s son is a doctor or an engineer. They did not understand I'm a different person with my talents,”- says Surbhi.

How the journey started:

Initially Surbhi got orders through her circle of friends and then she slowly expanded her client list. There whwre "Kalakar" Gift Studio was born. Her self-run business venture is to help people present the perfect gift to their loved ones. Her gift boxes and hampers are created on the preferences of the person. The price of each gift box depends on the demands of the client. The highest she selled her gift box is Rs 4000.

“My most popular gift hamper is the snack bouquet, which is an edible gift. If a person likes a particular chips brand, it will be filled with that. This way the gifts have a meaning to those who receive it,” says Surbhi.

She always uses new creative ideas. Gota fabric, paints, and calligraphy are her statement picks when it comes to materials.

She even held a stall in Alwar last year, at a popular coffee shop for a week before Valentine’s Day.

And guess what happened after that!!!

The owner of the coffee shop didn’t even ask a penny when he says this girl working so hard and independently towards her dream, he happily offered her the space for free. In just a week, Surbhi was able to sell all 50 Valentine’s themed gift boxes that she had made.

You all have heard the proverb- “When there’s a will, there’s a way”. You just need to have faith in what you are doing, the same as Surbhi had on her dreams.

After successful deliveries in Alwar and nearby areas, she was more confident of her venture and decided to take it to the next level. In 2019, she moved to Bengaluru and is doind a course to make her business grow further.

Surbhi is creates gifts that combine “materialistic pleasure and have emotional value”.

Taking experiencess from her own life she is building new themed gift boxes. These will have encouraging messages to motivate people to overcome dark phases in life, accept themselves, and not give up on their dreams.

Surbhi began the venture from her personal savings of Rs 4,000,that she collected over years, and now she claims to have made Rs 1.2 lakh from sales. However, a major portion of which she has reinvested back into the business.
