Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the nation for the 'Hindi Diwas' on Monday (September 14) and congratulated the linguists who worked tirelessly for Hindi language growth.

I thank all the linguists who helped create the Hindi language on this occasion, tweeted the Prime Minister. "Welcome all on Hindi Diwas.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his wishes to 'Hindi Diwas' by saying that the language was an 'unbreakable feature of Indian culture' adding that since centuries Hindi has served to 'unify the entire world.'

In particular, on 14 September 1949, Hindi was first adopted as the Republic of India's official language by the Constituent Assembly of India. 



By the Constitution of India on 26 January 1950, the decision to use Hindi as India's official language was legalized. 

Hindi is the 4th most spoken language in the world and is spoken as a Native language by over 250 million in India.
