People suffering from Acne issues are often seen following several skincare regimes. But only following certain skincare rituals won’t completely help in order to get rid of it. Many food items that we consume on a daily basis can also make Acne worse.

Acne is a skin disease that is caused when the hair follicles becomes clogged with excess sebum, oil and dead skin cells. If left untreated, acne can take severe form which in future can cause emotional distress and scarring of the skin. It can start from small bumps or whiteheads on facial skin or any part of the body, which eventually can increase depending on the severity. It can lead to pimples, small red painful bumps and painful pus-filled lumps.

Acne is caused mostly among teenagers.Although it can affect people of different age groups. It can also occur in adult females during menstruation period.

Is acne curable?

Like any other disease acne is a curable disease as well.In order to cure your acne completely there are some restrictions which you will have to follow.

Acne is most faced by people who have oily skin.People with dry skin and normal skin re faces acne issues. Hence, if you are someone who have oily skin then you should wash your face with a gentle cleanser twice a day regularly. It would be more beneficial if your cleanser would contain salicylic acid.You can follow the CTM process i.e., cleansing toning and moisturizing process in order to keep your skin clean and oil free.

However, along with following a good skin care routine you should also maintain a healthy diet. A healthy diet would not only decrease your chances of getting acnes but will also give you a well maintained physique. There are some foods that increase your acne issues. Those foods can trigger the level of acne causing bacteria and excess oil production.

Here are some food items that are worsening your Acne issues :

  1. Skimmed Milk

According to researchers, low fat or fat-free milk can have an impact on Acne. People allergenic or intolerant to lactose can get skin problems for it.Milk consists of growth hormones which can create imbalance in your body causing oily skin and breakouts. Instead of skimmed milk you can go for almond milk or rice milk.

  1. Refined grains and Sugars

Foods containing high amount of refined carbohydrates such as bread, pasta made with white flour, soda and sugar sweetened beverages and sweeteners like honey, Maple syrup or agave can increase the risk of developing acne by 30%. Refined carbohydrates can result in rise of insulin which affects acne.

  1. Junk foods

Acne has a strong association with eating junk foods. Junk foods or fast foods like – burgers, nuggets, hot dogs, fries, milkshakes and sodas may increase the risk of acne. Eating junk foods regularly can increase the risk by 17%. Although, there is no clear reason why eating junk foods increases the risk of acne but few researchers have proposed that the possible reason could be altered hormone levels or effect on gene expression.



  1. Chocolate

In a study it has been seen that those consuming unsweetened cocoa suffered a significant increase in acne. The study has revealed,because chocolate contains milk, which is a dairy product and contains lactose, has a strong reaction on the immune system which further causes acne causing bacteria.

  1. Lean Meat and Animal Protein

Some large pimples, which can also appear in the jawline, neck or beside the cheeks can occur due to over consumption of meats like chicken and mutton.
